Panda Nail Art

The last nail art that I blogged about on munch and makeup was the strawberry and watermelon nail art. I wanted to try painting pandas on my nails (who doesn’t like pandas?!) and especially bought some white nail polish to do so.

The nail polishes that I used were No.7 stay perfect clear base/finishing polish, Missguided misbehave pink, Sinful confession white and Models own nail art pen.

Nail polishes

Unfortunately the nib of my Models own nail art pen decided to stop working after the first panda that I did on my thumb, so I had to use the brush instead – hence the pandas look a bit furry!

I started off by painting their white faces, once dried; I then painted their black ears, black eyes and noses. Once they dried I put tiny white dots on their eyes to make their eyeballs, finishing off with a layer of clear nail polish.

I also used a light pink colour as the background, which I avoided at the beginning as I thought I might need to do a lot of correcting, but the pandas were actually quite easy to do!

Some Amazing Fruit Carvings

I wanted to share a few pictures of some amazing fruit carvings that I came across in the Maldives. Definitely too pretty to eat! Can you guess what fruit they are?

Back from a Lovely Holiday in the Maldives

Kuramathi IslandI’m back from the Maldives, just about getting over the jet lag and have come to the realisation that the holiday is well and truly over! Gone are the lazy days of eating 3 huge meals, snorkelling, napping, 30° C climate and sunbathing every day. We arrived back to LHR on Tuesday night, greeted by November’s chilly weather. Wearing flip flops back home probably wasn’t a good choice!

We stayed at Kuramathi Island Resort. We arrived to the island by a seaplane and a short boat ride. The first thing we noticed was that it was a huge island compared to the other two islands in the Maldives that we have visited before. The staff were really friendly; a cold towel and chilled cocktail was a perfect welcome!

Every morning we had omelettes, waffles and fruit for breakfast then made our way to the beach for some snorkelling action, which was the best bit of the holiday. I love the clear, sparkling sea, even if it does get quite scary. It’s like another world with loads of cool fish and friendly sharks. After lunch, our afternoons consisted of sunbathing, reading, exploring the island and napping, before heading to the bar for a cocktail or two before dinner in the evening! Sunset cruise

Whilst on holiday, we tried diving which I really enjoyed, and wish that I had tried it a long time ago. We also went on a sunset cruise on a day where there was no sunset, and went snorkel safari where we visited a few other reefs and saw more cool fish, sharks and a turtle.

Even though it was an amazing holiday, I felt there were still a few downsides to the island.

Downsides of the Island

Because it was a huge island, as well as golf buggies to take visitors around the resort, there were a couple of minibuses and scooters driving around the island too. They didn’t have their own water processing plant either, all their water came in plastic bottles, which don’t get recycled in the Maldives, just thrown away on their ‘rubbish tip island’ or shipped to India. We had at least 4 or 5 bottles a day, which is a lot of plastic bottles if that’s what all the guests drink. I tried to take my empties back with me but not all of them fit in my bag! Maybe not a con for some people, but they also feed the stingrays at the resort. You can see stingrays and small sharks every evening waiting to be fed, which makes me wonder if they are now relying on the food too much…

Besides of a few cons, this was still an amazing trip away! I would definitely love to visit the Maldives once again! Here are a few pictures:

It feels weird heading off on a summer holiday in the middle of November, but I cannot wait to get to the Maldives! We’ve visited two small resorts here before, Filitheyo Island and Veligandu Island, which were small, beautiful and amazing islands! Now we’re visiting a much bigger one called Kuramathi, which looks lovely as well, but I’m not sure what to expect from a bigger resort.

Anyway, I have been refreshing weather pages and although it says 31C, it also says raining but I’m hoping it’s not true! I have also been stalking TripAdvisor, where the worst review complained that there was too much vegetation…?! A bit of a weird thing to moan about!

I’m most looking forward to snorkelling, reading, listening to music and laying on the beach.

See you all in a week or so, when there will be just 4 weeks until Christmas!

OPI The Muppets Mini Nail Lacquers – Wocka Wocka! and Excuse Moi!

Today I’m wearing Wocka Wocka! and Excuse Moi! Which are part of the mini Muppets nail collection, which I’ve blogged about in one of my posts on Munch and Makeup.

OPI The Muppets Mini Nail Lacquers

The Wocka Wocka! is a stunning shimmery red colour, which applies on easily and dries relatively quickly. In the photo I’ve used 3 coats of polish, but you only need 2 coats to get the deep colour. However, after wearing 2 coats for one day, I somehow managed to chip it and it looked quite worn on the tip of my fingernails. Think that I need to start wearing a top/finishing coat!

On my thumb I tested out Excuse Moi! which is a lovely shimmer with a light pink base and lots sparkles, including green, pink, red, yellow, blue, silver and orange. I’ll definitely be wearing this over one of my pink shades of nail polishes!

Visit to Imperial China in Teddington

This is my favourite place to eat dim sum. What’s even better is that this restaurant is close to home, so I thought it would write about this place.

I’ve noticed that after a few years of eating at Imperial China, it’s getting busier and busier, especially on the weekends. The last weekend I went, we didn’t book a table and had to wait 40 min. However, a couple of people who had actually booked a table – had to wait even longer, I think it was because they were waiting for a table for 2, which the restaurant has very little of. Ok, so the service fluctuates – as it gets busier, the staff get more stressed and the service starts to go downhill, but the food however, is delicious every time!

The dim sum menu is extensive at Imperial China. My favourite dishes are the pork puff pastries, prawn dumplings and the baby chilli squids.

The pork puff pastries are fresh, flaky and the meat inside is so tasty. The prawn in the prawn dumplings are big, delicious, and the pastry wrapped around the prawns are perfect. The baby chilli squids are on the main menu and are a bit expensive, but are definitely something worth treating yourself too, if you like squid. I love the chilli kick that the crispy squids have.

The standard of food at Imperial China, has always been better than the dim sum restaurants that I’ve been to in China Town. It’s well worth a visit if you like the little parcels of goodness. Just get to the restaurant early!

Which is your favourite restaurant? What are your favourite dim sum dishes?

OPI The Muppets Mini Nail Lacquers – Warm & Fozzie

The muppets mini nail lacquers are one of the purchases I got from the wholesalers, which I mentioned that I went to in one of my previous posts on munch and makeup. The packaging made buying this collection irresistible! Who else could resist festive, sparkly nail polishes based around the muppets?!

The collection is made up of 3 shimmers and 1 glitter including, Wocka Wocka!, Excuse Moi!, Designer… de Better! and Warm & Fozzie.

OPI Muppets Collection

I’ve also got the OPI Rainbow Connection which is part of the muppets collection, which I’ve only just managed to scrape off my nails… so am avoiding glitter at the moment but won’t say no to a bit of shimmer.

The first and only nail polish from the mini muppets collection that I’ve tried so far is Warm & Fozzie, which is a metallic copper and shimmers bronze. However, depending on the lighting, there are also hints of pink and green!

I used 3 coats of the polish to get a dense colour –

Warm & Fozzie

I don’t think I’ve actually worn a brown coloured nail polish before Warm & Fozzie, but it’s surprisingly nice and reminds me of autumn as well.

The best thing about this nail polish is the unique colour, the con would be having to use 3 coats of it to get its full colour.

Have you braved brown on your nails?
